Can IAS be cracked in 8-9 months? - OnlineEdge UPSC

Of course. It took me 12 months of serious preparation to get rank 51. But a lot of my batchmates have cracked this exam with even 6 months of preparation!

Let us take a month-wise preparation strategy-

Month 1: Cover up all your NCERTs, make notes of the same. Also, daily read newspaper- The Hindu or the Indian Express.

Month 2 , 3 and 4: Newspaper reading to continue, cover all major textbooks apart from NCERTs like

Month 5- Revise. Only revision of all that you read in month 1 to 4. And solve mock papers. Here focus only on Prelims mock papers. In the recent 2–3 years, Prelims has emerged as the most unpredictable stage.

Month 6- By now you should have a fair understanding of where you stand. If you are getting polity questions wrong, focus on Laxmikant. Starting this month, also start your optional preparation. Here please be aware that if you selecting a science optional, you will have to start preparing from day 1. Syllabus is considerable for those subjects. Humanities optional should aim to cover their Paper I syllabus before Prelims and then after Prelims it's all about Paper II and answer writing.

Month 7 and 8- just to ensure that you have not missed out on any important current affairs, read additional complications like Insight Secure, AIR news alert and RSTV big debate. They do not require much time, you can watch them while having dinner or even traveling.

Month 9- Next month is your Prelims. Stay healthy. Do yoga for at least ten minutes a day. Revise and only revise. No new book is to be read now. See what mistakes you made in mocks. Revise important chapters of Modern History, Art and Culture, Polity. They will certainly feature in the actual exam.

Practice answer writing after Prelims. You will have good three months to prepare before you write the actual Mains. In those three months you will have to stretch real hard. But never mind, this hard work will be life changing.
